nasal release technique

NRT is a non-invasive, manual therapy technique used to treat various conditions related to the nasal passages and sinuses.

What is Nasal Release Technique (NRT)?

NRT is a unique structural technique that adjusts the bones of the skull by inserting small, inflatable balloons into the nasal cavities and gently expanding them to create pressure and movement. The procedure helps to mobilize the cranial bones, thereby improving the flow of fluids throughout the cranium, and opening the airways.

What is a NRT exam like?

The patient will be asked questions about their medical history and to determine their chief complaint for the visit. The patient’s inspiratory flow capacity will be measured, the sinus cavity is inspected for polyps or nasal obstructions, and they will be observed for any eye movement restrictions. Following this examination, the doctor will insert a balloon into each nasal conchae four times. With each insertion, the patient will be instructed to hold their breath while the doctor inflates the balloon. There will be a brief retesting of the patient’s eye movement.

Does it hurt?

There is no pain associated with the procedure. The patient may experience mild side effects following treatment. These may include: mild sinus irritation, headache, increased mucus production, mild bloody discharge, or lightheadedness. It is common to experience some residual pressure in the nose, which typically dissipates within a day or two.

What are the benefits?

NRT has been effective in helping with congestion and breathing issues including loss of smell, vertigo, snoring or sleep apnea, and ringing in the ears.
